Bautinn is a family run restaurant in the heart of town. Set in one of Akureyri’s oldest houses, Bautinn restaurant has been the town’s fixture for over 40 years. It is the place to go for reasonably priced quality food for the whole family. They pride themselves on friendly service and attention to everyone’s needs. Their menu offers a variety of dishes with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients prepared in ways which combine traditional Icelandic recipes with modern innovations. They offer a daily selection of fresh fish and other seasonal items. Salad bar, artisan bread and an extensive selection of desserts and free ice-cream for kids.
The Grilled Whale. Although controversial, whale meat can truly make an exquisite meal. We recommend that you go bold and try something new that you can’t taste in most other countries. Bautinn serves the whale with a baked potato, cowberry jam, and game sauce. To make sure you won’t go home hungry, soup and salad bar is included with all meat dishes.
We came here on a recommendation from our guest house and we loved it. The food was plentiful and well made. In fact, we had more than we needed. Definitely, try some of their more Icelandic dishes. I found it to be a better value for what I was paying than other restaurants. They have a soup and salad bar in addition to their full meals.
